the end of my era

I had to put my sunglasses on before I even left the garage this morning. My eyes were all teary and it was embarrassing and I didn't want Tommy to see.

You see.

We were heading to our first day of full-day kindergarten. We were excited. We were positive. We were upbeat. All by myself I was so sad. Now he is big. Once you send them to school, you never get them back, not really. My little window of just us is officially over (tearing up while I write this). Before I know it he will be going away for good. I am trusting so much of his future to strangers. They can't possibly love him like I do. This is not o.k. with me.

He is ready. He wants to read and write and learn. He wants to stand on his own two feet and do it all by himself. He asks so many questions and he is ready to go looking for his own answers. He wants to be big.

He came home wearing a three-cornered hat and tired eyes and a great big grin. I had to put my sunglasses on in a hurry. It was very bright out.

So sorry! That was my BABY last year! SO hard. It does get a little easier, but I can see everyday how he is slipping away as a big first grader!
Hang in there!

I dunna like Kindergarten. Full day would be too hard on my kids (juuuust fine for me, for the record;) but half day is a pain in the patooty. I, more than once, completely forgot about school amidst running errands.

The little dude sure does look cute on his first day, tho!

So, so hard. And yet it works. It always does. But I am a disaster in the meantime. Thinking of you sweet friend...

OMG!!! I think I'm going to have to put on my sunglasses after reading this post. Great post! Sniff. Sniff.

I'm so glad your son had such a fun day! School is such a big deal. I agree, after you send them off, you don't really ever get them back. I have 2 more years before my oldest hits kindergarden and I'm holding on to every single second between then and now. : )
